People Who Need People
A new magazine, MBA Jungle, will not hit newsstands later this fall. Instead, the magazine, a venture backed by Ridgewood Capital and Korn/Ferry International, will be given free to MBA students across the country. Employers are so hungry for management talent these days that the two firms expect to recoup their expenses, and then some, on advertising dollars alone. Eight times a year, beginning in September, MBA Jungle will run several feature articles and lifestyle features, and will launch a companion website in conjunction with publication. The hopes are that profits will be realized from the advertising, as well as by a compilation, engineered by the magazine, of A-list resumes and names that will be made available to recruiters and employers. From the sound of things, the magazine is off to a strong start. Carnegie Mellon was among the first institutions to sign on, offering to distribute the magazine without charging except to cover distribution costs. "We're not doing it for the money," said Jean Eisel, director of the career center at Carnegie Mellon University. "We're doing it to give our students great information to go out to be successful." Other early signups include the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. |
